PROJECT DESCUADRE

Descuadre is one of the programs initiated by La Casa Cuadrada A.I.R., born from a commitment to foster artistic development opportunities for women artists working in dialogue with other women in rural areas of Andalusia.

This project also stems from the personal experience of Lisa Marie Vlietstra, founder of the residency, as a young woman arriving from Amsterdam to a context profoundly different from the one she knew. This cultural shift made her acutely aware of the structural and symbolic barriers that many women face in rural settings—particularly regarding access to artistic creation, representation, and autonomy.

Building on this experience, Descuadre takes shape as an artistic initiative focused on the well-being, visibility, and connection among women—creating spaces where art becomes a tool for reflection and social transformation.

Descuadre is dedicated exclusively to women artists whose practice addresses, from a critical or poetic perspective, themes related to the female experience: feminism, sexuality, motherhood, the body, self-esteem, history, emotional education, and digital culture, among others.

Each resident artist, in addition to developing their own research and artistic work, commits to creating a space for engagement with the local community through a participatory workshop and a public exhibition that fosters dialogue with girls, adolescents, and young women in the municipality.

Through this initiative, Vlietstra aims to establish a committed residency model in which art serves as a vehicle for social transformation, the building of support networks among women, and the strengthening of the cultural fabric in rural areas.
