SQUARE HOUSE, ROUND HEART.

La Casa Cuadrada A.I.R. was born from a symbolic reflection on the architectural space we inhabit.
At the center of our house lies the patio—a square-shaped courtyard. This geometric form, composed of four straight lines, has traditionally symbolized containment, structure, and rigidity.

In Anglo-Saxon culture, the expression to be square refers to a conservative, rigid attitude—one that resists innovation or alternative thinking. Within this frame of reference, the notion of “square” embodies the normative: that which does not overflow, that which remains confined within boundaries.

However, La Casa Cuadrada subverts this logic: we transform the square into a space of openness, transgression, and freedom. Within these seemingly defined walls, a context emerges where norms are questioned and artistic creation becomes a tool for dialogue and social transformation.

SPACE.

La Casa Cuadrada A.I.R. is a stately building from 1850, located in the town of El Coronil, Seville. The house has been carefully restored to its original state, preserving its historical architecture and heritage value, while incorporating subtle decorative elements inspired by contemporary Nordic design.

After an extensive two-year renovation process, the space has been reimagined as a hybrid environment where the architectural and cultural authenticity of southern Spain engages in dialogue with contemporary artistic and aesthetic practices. The house features generous communal areas — including a living room, kitchen, two bathrooms, and two spacious patios — as well as five private rooms for resident artists.

SCENERY.

El Coronil is a municipality in the province of Seville, located in the heart of Andalusia. The capital city, Seville, is just a 30-minute drive away, while other points of interest—such as Ronda (Málaga), the Sierra de Cádiz, and the famous White Villages—are approximately one hour away.

The region offers a rich geographical variety, including mountainous areas, beaches, dunes, pine forests, agricultural fields, and freshwater lakes, all easily accessible with short trips from the town.
