Born in 1990, Blaricum,The Netherlands. Graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in 2014 & MA Artistic Research through Cinema, Cum Laude,The Netherlands Film Academy, Amsterdam. Lives and works in Sevilla, Spain. Founder of artist in residence program LA CASA CUADRADA and the foundation DESCUADRE in El Coronil, Sevilla.
I’m Lisa Marie Vlietstra, an artist and visual activist specializing in film and photography.
Dutch (Amsterdam) living in Andalusia for six years. With a degree in Fine Arts from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy (Amsterdam) and a master’s degree in experimental film from the Netherlands Film Academy. (Amsterdam)
After finishing my master’s degree, I came to Andalusia, to a rural town near Seville (El Coronil),
to start the art residency ̈La Casa Cuadrada ̈ with a focus on audiovisuals and social participation.
With the house as a hub, she started the ̈ Descuadre ̈ foundation focused particularly on female artists who seek connection with women and girls in the area.
Through my personal artistic practice I aspire to (self)reflection on “showing” oneself and all the ways women choose to do so. I invite women to collectively rethink the way we are conditioned to see and show ourselves.

FOUNDATION DESCUADRE
I, Lisa, founder of The Square House, photographer, filmmaker and undeniably a woman, arrived in El Coronil with the purpose of creating a creative space, a cultural and social pillar in a small municipality. The objective: to provide a breath of fresh air and open up a conversation on (in my eyes) important social issues. I wanted to provide a stage for talent and creativity in this particular rural area, where we all know, it is less viable to dedicate oneself solely to the arts as a full-time profession, and where certain themes continue being taboo.
The culture shock I experienced between the culture from a young woman living in Amsterdam trying to integrate in El Coronil was overwhelming with one fundamental consequence: I had never been so aware of being a woman, and what that could mean for better or worse in my path as an entrepreneur, artist and individual.
That feeling became my motivation to develop my personal artistic practice and focus La Casa Cuadrada on the well-being of women, contributing to the community of girls and women in El Coronil. With this goal five strong and creative women founded the foundation Descuadre (not level) with The Square House as our home base. Our organization tries to level the playing field of the presentation of women in the arts as opposed to the representation of male artists in the art world.
With Descuadre we seek female artistic intervention in rural areas of Seville, Andalusia working exclusively with women. Each artist will address a topic that negatively or positively influences the well-being of women today.
With our specialized residency program ¨Mujer Magenta¨ (Magenta Woman) we encourage them to reflect on their current artistic practice in relation to the following possible topics: feminism, sexism, misogynistic culture, sexuality, pornography, body dysmorphia, pre-menstrual disorders, emotional well being, coaching in assertiveness. Education on social media, self-esteem, authenticity, security, the history of value of women over time, biology of the female body, personal and professional development.
In addition to developing their research and creating an artwork as a posible outcome, we give each artist the responsibility of developing and hosting a workshop and to organize a preferably interactive exhibition. This initiative will seek to ensure the participation and involvement of the female community in the region, focusing on young women, adolescents, and young adults, depending on the project, the reflection of each artist and their imagined demographic.
